Zhané (pronounced Jah-Nay) was an American R&B/hip hop soul duo, best known for their 1993 hit "Hey Mr. D.J.", which reached No. 6 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.[1] Other popular hits include "Groove Thang" (U.S. No. 17) and minor hit "Sending My Love," both released in 1994. The group was part of Queen Latifah's Flavor Unit collective. In the early 1990s, Renée Neufville and Jean Norris initially met while both were attending Philadelphia's Temple University and used to sing together at talent shows and other events. Although not a group, they collaborated on each other’s songs. In 1991, the pair met DJ Jazzy Jeff and their first professional recording together was "Ring My Bell" on the same album that featured DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s “Summertime”. Former Warner Bros. executive Benny Medina suggested they become a group. For the name, Neufville had the idea of using the French pronunciation of their first names Jean and Renée, which sounded like “Jahnay”. According to Norris "we added a 'Z' for a little flavor and we came up with Zhané.

LYRICS

"Hey Mr. D.J."

Everybody move your body now do it
Here is something that's gonna make you move & groove
Hey DJ keep playin that song all night on and on and on
(On and on and on and on)

Everybody move your body now do it
Here is something that's gonna make you move & groove
Hey DJ keep playin that song all night on and on and on
(On and on and on and on)

It's Friday night and the weekend's here
I need to unwind
Where's the party Mr DJ, DJ

I am ready to call my friends
So we can boogie down
Where's the party hey Mr DJ

Hey Mr. DJ you can get this started,
Everybody's ready to party all night, all night
All the girls are ready
So we can all get to it,
So we can party 'til the break of dawn

Everybody move your body now do it
Here is something that's gonna make you move & groove
Hey DJ keep playin that song all night on and on and on
(On and on and on and on)

Everybody move your body now do it
Here is something that's gonna make you move & groove
Hey DJ keep playin that song all night on and on and on
(On and on and on and on)

It's Friday night and the weekend's here
I need to unwind
Where's the party Mr DJ

I am ready to call my friends
So we can boogie down
Where's the party hey Mr DJ

Hey Mr. DJ you can get this started,
Everybody's ready to party all night, all night
All the girls are ready
So we can all get to it,
So we can party 'til the break of dawn

Once again, it's on, yo Zhané blow the horn
Let the D.J. know to keep playing your song
Maybe I'll browse, snatch up a blouse
Rip the foul, ho
And get rub-a-dub style
'Cause your body won't move
If it can't feel the groove
So can't boogie, have to show and prove
Hey, now I'm feeling the vibe
Rolling wit the flava
Feeling alright
Ho, yo, there's a party over here
Yo, oh no, the party's over there
Call up your friends, let 'em know
Fam's tagging along
Hey D.J. keep playing that song

Everybody move your body now do it
Here is something that's gonna make you move & groove
Hey DJ keep playin that song all night on and on and on
(DJ play that record)
(On and on and on and on)

Everybody move your body now do it
Here is something that's gonna make you move & groove
Hey DJ keep playin that song all night on and on and on
(DJ play that record)
(On and on and on and on)

Everybody move your body now do it
Here is something that's gonna make you move & groove
Hey DJ keep playin that song all night on and on and on
(On and on and on and on)
